[edit] Information
Digging for Britain: Series 3 Professor Alice Roberts and archaeologist Matt Williams present 2014's most outstanding archaeology. In the summer, archaeologists have been unearthing our history in hundreds of digs across Britain. They have gone to extraordinary lengths to uncover long lost treasures - retelling our story in a way only archaeology can. With unique access to some of the country's best digs, our teams have been self-shooting their excavations to make sure the audience is there for every moment of discovery.
[edit] East
Alice Roberts and Matt Williams visit archaeological digs across the country, beginning with a look at the work being carried out in the east of England. The presenters visit Norwich Castle Museum, where they find out about developments at Must Farm in Cambridgeshire, a hunt for Roman treasure in Colchester, a burial site at Abington, an Anglo-Saxon Royal Hall at Lyminge, the 16th-century Tudor Basing House, and a dig involving Emperor Nero at Silchester.
[edit] West
Alice Roberts and Matt Williams visit the Dorset Country Museum, where they explore finds from archaeological digs across the west of Britain. The presenters examine objects found at a Bronze Age burial site in Barrowclump, a Roman army site called Durotriges and the site of an early hospital at Winchester, Hampshire. Plus, a hoard found by metal detectors revealing hidden secrets of childhood 1,000 years ago, and a Roman settlement at Ipplepen in Devon.
[edit] North
Alice Roberts and Matt Williams explore finds from archaeological digs across the north of Britain, and begin at the Ness of Brodgar in the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site, where they view a 5,000-year-old temple. The presenters witness the unearthing of a Roman altar in Maryport, Cumbria, examine discoveries from Flixton in North Yorkshire that are around 11,000 years old, and travel to a cemetery in Ardnamurchan in the Highlands. Plus, a Tudor-era feasting hall, and a hoard of Pictish treasures.
