Secret China: Series 1 China is an industrial giant and urban powerhouse. But beyond the familiar images of skyscrapers and bustling crowds, there’s a different China. This is a land of extremes – of great natural beauty – where resourceful people have built extraordinary lives against the odds. On this journey of discovery we plunge deep into a remarkable, mysterious and hidden world.

We meet farmers clinging to remote mountains, growing and preparing tea the way they have for over a 1000 years. We go ice fishing with hunters up on the Russian border, where temperatures plunge to minus 40˚C. We meet herdsmen on the great Asian steppes, who’ve been riding horses since before they could walk. Wildly different worlds, united by a single theme – the ingenuity of people who must coax a living from the most unforgiving landscapes. Get ready to enter – Secret China.

This is the second episode of the series "Secret China", From geographical and sociological perspectives, this series truly captures the tranquil and life of rural Chinese and, through vivid and lively camera shots, depicts the vast changes occurring across China’s villages. No sight of the crowd of skyscrapers, no bustling traffic or neon lights in sleepless nights. Around the tranquil and pristine corners across China’s countryside, we search, trace and record, with lively images and vivid film language, the real life scenes of the rural Chinese today, portraying their stories of joys and sorrows, hopes and worries.

China: the world’s fastest-growing economy – and land of the megacity. But beyond the familiar images of sky scrapers and bustling crowds is a different China. This is a land of extremes and of great natural beauty, where ancient traditions and beliefs still survive.
