[edit] Fiordland
On this episode we visit Coal Island, a small far-flung island with big history and home to some of New Zealand’s oldest rock formations and the submarine gardens here in Fiordland are unlike any other on the planet.
At the southernmost tip of Fiordland we find one of this country’s most dramatic lighthouse stories
[edit] East Cape
Neil gets his first ever glimpse of a live volcano; Jacky hunts for apostles from Gisborne's Age of Aquarius; and Matt dives into a tale of tragedy, treasure and treachery in Mahia.
[edit] Top of the South
Neil uncovers the Abel Tasman National Park that boasts a pristine environment of rain forest, glaciers and fast flowing rivers and learns how to save whales before flying to the city of Christchurch and onto the Northern region of the South Island, while Matt goes in search of the Mikhail Lermontov.
[edit] Auckland
New Zealand's largest city has a claim to the title 'City of Volcanoes'. Over fifty have erupted within 20 kilometers of the central city. Marine biologist Jacky Guerts discovers a battle blooming under Auckland's Waitemata Harbor after unwanted marine hitch-hikers have found their way across the ocean on boat hulls. And Neil goes paddling on the beach, Piha style
[edit] Far North
The warm subtropical top of the North Island is famed for its beauty and history. Nowhere in New Zealand is land entangled more vividly with the sea than around the beautiful but sometimes wild Far North peninsula. Riria Hotere takes aim at the musket wars to discover the legend of New Zealand's first arms race. Neil drops anchor at a picturesque inlet with a gruesome history that could have seen New Zealand being the new South of France
[edit] Deep South
The Otago Coast is a formidable place to live. Cold winds and waves roll in from Antarctica battering the wildlife, flora and people so much so that they are all shaped by their environment, often bending, but seldom broken. Geologist Hamish Campbell realizes there is nothing too solid about the planet we live on as he finds out erosion is causing our heritage to slip into the ocean. Neil find out about the tragic history of past seafaring days along the Catlins coast where the wild weather often forced captains to play a game of Russian roulette with their lives and that of their crews
